This Privacy Policy informs you about how Laniakea Research GmbH i.f. ("we," "us," or "our") collects, processes, and protects your personal data on our website laniakearesearch.com, including our valuation cockpits. We are committed to transparency and handle all data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

3. Scope of Data Collection

A. Technical Log Files

When you visit our website, our hosting providers automatically collect and store information in "Server Log Files" that your browser transmits to us. Our website, including the valuation cockpits, is hosted by Netlify, Inc. This includes:

• IP Address

• Browser type and version

• Operating system used

• Referrer URL

• Time of the server request

Purpose: This data is technically necessary to ensure the stability and security of our website.

Retention: These logs are generally deleted or anonymized after 30 days.

B. Contacting Us

If you contact us by email or through the contact form on our website, the information you provide (name, email address and the content of your message) is stored to answer your request and any follow-up questions. Messages sent through the contact form are received and stored on our behalf by Netlify, Inc. (Netlify Forms) and forwarded to us by email. We do not share this information without your consent and delete it when it is no longer needed.

4. Valuation Cockpits

Our valuation cockpits are interactive tools that run in your browser. In addition to the log files described in section 3A, the following applies:

A. Anonymous Usage Data

To understand how our cockpits are used and to improve them, we record anonymous information when you change the assumptions in a cockpit.

• What we record: the cockpit and its version, the view you use (Simple, Standard or Advanced), the values of the sliders and settings, the resulting valuation, the share price used for comparison, the date and time, and the country you are visiting from (derived by Netlify from your connection, without storing your IP address).

• What we do not record: your name, email address, IP address, or any cookie, advertising ID or other identifier stored on your device. A random number links the records of a single page visit; it exists only while the page is open and is not stored on your device. The data therefore cannot be linked to you.

• When nothing is recorded: if you do not change anything in a cockpit, or if your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal.

• Purpose: to see which assumptions visitors change and where their results land, and to improve the cockpits. We may publish aggregated results (for example, "the middle result of visitors was $1.1 trillion") that do not reveal any individual visit.

• Storage and retention: the data is stored with Netlify, Inc. (USA) on our behalf. We keep it for as long as it is useful for improving the cockpits and delete it when it is no longer needed.

B. Live Market Data

To compare valuations with today's market value, the cockpits load current share prices (and, on request, interest rates) directly from your browser. These requests go to Yahoo Finance and Finnhub and, if a direct request is not possible, through public relay services (allorigins.win, corsproxy.io, codetabs.com, r.jina.ai); interest rates come from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED) and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. These providers receive your IP address and browser information as part of the technical request; no other data about you is sent. The most recent share price is cached in your browser's local storage so it does not have to be loaded again on every visit. This cache contains only market data, not personal data, and you can delete it at any time in your browser settings.

C. Settings Stored in Your Browser

The cockpits remember a few settings in your browser's local storage so they are the same on your next visit: light or dark mode, the view you chose (Simple, Standard or Advanced), the sections you pinned, and whether you have already answered the prompt to share your result. These settings stay on your device, are not sent to us and contain no personal data. You can delete them at any time in your browser settings. We do not use cookies.

D. Fonts and Software Libraries

All fonts and software libraries (for example the charting library) are hosted on our own website. Your browser does not contact Google Fonts or other font or library providers when you visit us.

5. YouTube Integration

We embed videos from our YouTube channel on this website. This service is provided by Google Ireland Limited.

• Enhanced Data Protection Mode: We embed videos using YouTube's "enhanced data protection mode." This means YouTube does not store information about visitors on this website unless they choose to play the video.

• Third-Party Processing: If you play a video, YouTube may set cookies and process data according to Google’s Privacy Policy.

6. International Data Transfers

We utilize global service providers to operate our business:

• Netlify (USA): Netlify hosts our website, receives contact form messages and stores the anonymous usage data described in section 4A. Netlify is certified under the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF).

• Google/YouTube (USA), only if you play a video: Data transfer to the USA is governed by the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF) and/or Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) to ensure your data remains protected under Swiss standards.

• Market data and relay services (section 4B): these providers may process the technical request data outside Switzerland and the EU.

7. Your Rights

Under the Swiss nFADP, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Right to Information: You can request to know what data we hold about you.

• Right to Rectification: You can request that we correct inaccurate data.

• Right to Erasure: You can request the deletion of your data (subject to legal retention periods).

• Right to Restriction/Objection: You can object to data processing, particularly for direct marketing.

8. Data Security

We use modern encryption standards (SSL/TLS) to protect the transmission of data between your device and our servers. However, please be aware that data transmission over the internet can have security gaps.

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy to ensure it complies with current legal requirements or to reflect changes in our services. The version currently published on the website applies.
